Give It Time
When shopping for a new perfume or cologne, to be able to know how the fragrance will truly react to your skin type, try placing a spritz from a tester sample on the inside area of your wrist. Then, take about twenty minutes, and continue shopping around, allowing the fragrance to do its magic. After the twenty-minute wait, it is then you can take a whiff and know if you will like it enough to make a purchase. If you find you love the smell, then certainly go back to the counter and make your purchase!
On The Go
If you find that waiting for the twenty minutes is a no-go, then take advantage of snagging a few sample cards of the fragrances you are interested in. There is usually a good selection available on the fragrance counter of most department stores, and if not, speak with a salesperson about possibly acquiring some.
Give The Sniff Test
When sniffing a variety of fragrances, if you do not properly cleanse your “palate” between fragrances, they will eventually all run together and you will not be able to tell one from the other. Your best option is to brew up a pot of unflavored coffee, regular or decaf it doesn’t matter. Then, in between each fragrance that you sniff, take a sniff of the coffee grounds that were used and left from the brewing. Doing so will aid in sufficiently cleansing your palate and allow you to get a true sense of the individual fragrances, without them blending together into one.
